nxnative env.txt config generator

Choose the settings you want and copy or download the env.txt. Each chosen setting becomes one KEY=VALUE line; anything you leave at "Not set" keeps the app's own behavior.

Presets:

Docked renders at the Switch's TV resolution; handheld at its lower handheld resolution, which is lighter on the device and can give a higher frame rate.

If not set: The game's tested setting

Only for games whose speed the app controls (Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom and a few others). 30 is what the Switch ran and keeps the device cooler.

If not set: The game's tested target

Shows the frames per second at the top left of the iPhone or iPad screen.

If not set: The packed setting (on by default)

A language code such as ja, fr or pt-BR. It must be a language the game has.

If not set: The packed language (English if none)

Size of the 3D picture, 0.5 to 1.0. Below 1.0 the game's dynamic resolution is off; the HUD and text keep their sharpness. Only for games the app can scale.

If not set: 1.0 (the game's own resolution)

Adjusts the resolution between 70% and 100% under load. Turn off to keep full resolution. Only for games that support it.

If not set: Off

Mac app only: start in a window or fullscreen.

If not set: Window

Mac app only: shares the save through iCloud Drive. A folder path, icloud (iCloud Drive, nxnative Saves) or 0 to turn it off.

If not set: Off

A haptic tap on the on-screen controls (iPhone and iPad).

If not set: On

Whether the game can rumble the controller or the phone.

If not set: On

0 to 3. 0 is silent.

If not set: 1 (the game's own strength)

0 to 0.9. Quiet rumble below this value is silenced.

If not set: 0 (nothing cut off)

MetalFX sharpens edges and text as it scales, but uses more GPU time and can increase heat.

If not set: Standard

For games that draw through NVN. Costs up to one frame more display latency.

If not set: The game's tested setting

For NVN games. Keeps a pipeline archive and uses more memory.

If not set: The game's tested setting on iPhone and iPad; on for the Mac app

For NVN games. The first start waits a few minutes for it, once.

If not set: On

For NVN games. Runs graphics preparation on its own thread.

If not set: On for iPhone and iPad; the game profile's setting on the Mac app

Lets a late frame stay on screen past the frame-rate cap.

If not set: The game's tested setting

Shows Apple's Metal overlay (frame rate, GPU time, memory).

If not set: Off

Set 0 to turn off all motion (gyro and shake) when it misbehaves.

If not set: On (unless the app was packed with --no-motion)

Set 0 to stop only the phone's gyro, so a controller's gyro still works.

If not set: On

Where the file goes

  • iPhone / iPad: in the Files app, open the app's folder (its Documents), save the file as env.txt, then fully close and reopen the app.
  • Mac app: ~/Library/Application Support/nxnative/<title ID>/env.txt, where <title ID> is the game's title ID.

A value in env.txt wins over the settings screen, which then shows that setting greyed out. Not every game offers every setting: see the settings guide, the official settings docs and your game's page. Related: controls, troubleshooting, compatibility checker.
