Is nxnative legal? What the project says and what this site does

People ask whether nxnative is legal. This page cannot answer that for your country, and it is not legal advice. What it can do is list, from the project's own files, what nxnative contains and what you have to bring yourself, and say what this site hosts.

Is nxnative legal? What the project says

What the project says about itself

The README says it plainly: you play your own Nintendo Switch games. You bring the game, as NSP files, and your prod.keys, and a script turns them into an IPA. It also says that nothing from any game is in the repository, and that the project is not affiliated with Nintendo or any game publisher.

The code is released under the MIT licence, with the copyright line "Copyright (c) 2026 seedds". Third-party code inside the repository keeps its own licence. The project also credits the work it builds on, for example d2r-mobile, Ryujinx (its shader translator) and Atmosphère. Our licence page shows the notice.

"It is not an emulator" is a technical statement

The README describes nxnative as not an emulator: the game's own code runs directly on the Apple chip, with the Switch's graphics rebuilt on Metal. That explains how it works (see nxnative vs emulators). It is a description of the technology, not a ruling that using it is lawful. Whether you may copy a game or a key file depends on your country's law and on how you obtained the files.

What you have to bring

  • The game's NSP files: the base game and, if you want them, its update and DLC.
  • A prod.keys file.

The project does not include either, and neither does this site. Use only files you have the right to use.

What this site hosts

NX Native is an unofficial community guide. It hosts no games, no keys, no firmware and no built apps. The Install page sends you to the official GitHub repository for the source code. Game pages hold notes and drawn illustrations, not game art. The site is not affiliated with the nxnative author, Nintendo or Apple. See About and disclaimer, and the copyright and takedown page if you own rights to something here.

Check the law where you live

Laws on copying games, on circumventing protection and on key files differ from country to country and change over time. If you are unsure, ask a lawyer in your country. This site is not one, and nothing here is legal advice.

Facts on this page were checked against the official nxnative commit bfc70881 (31 Oct 2026). The project changes often, so the official repository always wins.

This is an unofficial guide based on the project's public documentation. Use only games you own. For the latest details, check the official repository.
